In June Victoria's Secret released its Pink Collegiate Collection nationwide featuring pieces representing 33 Universities. Unfortunately none of the 33 Universities they included in their collection were historical black colleges. This left Howard University sophmore Amelia Reid extremely disappointed. Reid decided to email Victoria's Secret voicing her complaint but remained upset when she received a response in which she described as "sugar- coated". In early July she started a Facebook group called, "HBCU Ladies Wear Victoria's Secret Pink Too", trying to get those around her to notice that the situation with the company was not okay. Eventually her group consisted of about 400 members that all had the same anger as she did. A few days after the initial email was sent to the Victoria Secret CEO Richard Dent III, who received a forwarded email of her complaint, Dent contacted Reid through her Facebook group and he assured her that the problem would be fixed. He wanted her to know that they did in fact have a plan in the works, and sure enough they do! Victoria's Secret Pink Collegiate Collection will now be adding 5 HBCUS to their collection (Howard University, North Carolina A&T University, Florida A&M University, Hampton University, and Southern University). Dent also added that the company plans to include the students from the schools in internships at Victoria's Secret, and at each school's homecoming events they want to feature promotions. Although Reid is excited that her voice was heard, she doesn't plan to patronize the company until she sees its promotional tour bus at Howards homecoming, and HBCU products sold in stores. She also stated, "when I actually pick up my Howard sweatpants, is when I'll buy Pink again."
