A Night Interrupted....Twin Cities Hip Hop Awards 2010.....

*looks at smile lines on my face in the mirror*…….I’m glad I am getting older….wish others would join me…not so much in the age, but the mindset

So my night at the Twin Cities Hip Hop Awards started off great…..
Being from San Diego all types of concerts come our way AND the regions artist are respected like mainstream acts so I am all about support! Living here in the Twin Cities for two years in May, I have met so many talented artists through my work with MaXXposure & Vibin Exposed Open Mic. I was ready to hear great music, network, and see some of my friends that I have not seen in a while….and I was doing that…..until………um yeah……”IT” happened….

Let’s break this down very fast….. Guy A nominated for an award, Guy B is the host

Guy A is angry he did not win an award he was nominated for, Guy B has NOTHING to do with that….(TC HH awards are based on internet votes) Guy A proceeds to come on stage UNINVITED and make jokes about Guy B…(these jokes frankly missed the mark and lacked originality…) Guy B calls for security….over and over and over and over and over….get the point…
Guy A invades personal space….and snatches mic from Guy B….and then…..BAM…fight kicks off, chairs thrown, stage rushed by some in the crowd….
I DO NOT CONDONE VIOLENCE….so taking sides on that will never happen this way

To call Guy A’s move a “Kanye” would be an insult to Kanye…I never agreed with what he did to Taylor Swift and never will…..Kanye on the other hand has established himself as a household name and DELIVERS in his craft FIRST …and then he becomes “Wrong-Ye” LOL!

There are other ways to express your opinions on what you FEEL is wrong. Awards are all in the eyes of the voters/panel, if you let that be how you are judged…good luck with life…funny now Facebook and Twitter are filled with “F the Awards” sentiments…. yet….you let not being honored be the trigger for the negative actions

Whether or not you have an issue with how the Twin Cities Hip Hop awards are run, artists are nominated, and performances are selected is NOT the issue…that’s called deflection!
Hold your community accountable…..wrong is wrong is wrong is wrong
Think big picture….and let the fallout begin..

1) The search for a venue next year gets that much harder
2) Networking Opportunities up the wazoo were LOST (its nothing like face to face business)
3) $ LOST, for artist from sales, possible business, new fans
4) Oh yeah $LOST….. from artist/business owners from fliers/cds/business cards you did not get to hand out
5) Oh Damn $LOST again….. from the PEOPLE...who came to support…(btw First Ave…a $10 coat check, gold plated hangars?)
6) Twin Cities hip-hop =joke on the national scene…. besides a few groups that have made it…..and do not look back…wonder why huh?
7) GET THE DRIFT? If not stop reading now because you are not someone who will benefit from this post at all!

SO what did we learn from this? …Don’t get your way and have a hissy fit? Or MOVE ON AND LET YOUR WORK SPEAK FOR YOU? The best way to shut up a doubter is to show them, BUT you should never let your grind be in vain…

If the goal was to be known and get your name out there…well ya did it…..good job…..but check record sales…did that change? Fan base go up? Record deal offered? Book more shows?......

Twin Cities do better….I have seen the pilot light in the hip hop scene, but turn it into a full on FIRE!

So do better,... THEN see you at the top....
