Allow us to introduce the new kids on the block, "The Freshman Class.” Consisting of seven highschool students and one freshman in college, this crew of talented rap artists and DJ are out to set an example and take the music industry by storm.
All born and residing in the Twin Cities, Meech, Young Rocky, Kid Magic, Flyboy, Prince Cocky, Young Bishop, DJ Youngstar, and Dookie, have already begun making their mark not only locally but on a national level. Freshman Class artist Meech became an overnight success with his hit radio single "Thicka than a Snicka" in 2007. While the DJ of the crew, DJ Youngstar, began djing at the age of nine and since has toured with upcoming artists such as Just.Live, Auburn, and Canadian pop/r&b singer Justin Bieber, who recently signed to Usher's label in 2008.
Founder and father of DJ Youngstar, Cedric Townsend, also born and raised in Minneapolis, was inspired to form the crew as a way to promote positivity and unity amongst young artists. "There are so many talented young artists in the Twin Cities who don't make it anywhere, because they choose to hate on one another." According to Mr. Townsend, The Freshman Class is destined to succeed by continuous support of one another and creating a movement that will inspire other young artists to follow suit.
Be on the lookout for upcoming Freshman Class concerts and events at a venue near you.
