So last Sunday B Holmes, Kendra and I went to see Good Hair. Of course we all saw this was gonna be a comedy but also provide insight into the Hair industry itself. Overall you have to take the movie for what it is meant for...a good laugh.
We talked through the whole movie, I know I know, and were just as schocked as you about 1 particular Bronner Bros hair show contestant, HA! I actually want a Part 2...this is why
It seemed some of the undertones of the movie were that "If a black woman wears a weave, she is trying to be like her European counterparts"....we all found this laughable. All three of us have very coarse hair that w/o a relaxer or some sort of chemicals would be the new formula for S.O.S. Brillo Pads. Also we were all "victims" of someone in our family adding chemicals and changing our hair texture. Relaxers are like crack, not only are YOU addicted to it, your hair and schedule are.
Hair is fun to us and something that either helps or hides your clothes, mood and even wieght :) ...like Luda says "you have to cooooordinaaate"
Part 2 for me would also give Chris a chance to dispell myths IN OUR OWN CULTURE that we cannot grow hair... C'MON SON! Sadly enough we have all asked another sista if her hair is real if it is A) Long B) Healthy & C) Bouncy.....shame on us all, including myself
Lastly Part 2 could do what Rock did best on his Oprah interview...expose hair myths about ALL cultures...Sadly I enjoyed his Oprah interview regarding facts more then the movie at times. Did you see how many women in the audience did not have thier natural hair color,,,,and so what...right?!?
Chris Rock from His Oprah interview " Women worry about hair more than men, since the beginning of time has the birth rate went down? NO!" (further proving my "somebody for everybody" thoery)
In summation, Yes go see the movie, Yes it will get you talking, Yes it will make you laugh, but more importantly YES...it will make you realize.... WE HAVE TOO MANY HAIR OPTIONS TO LOOK JACKED UP! whether it is real or borrowed, Rock on Ladies, Rock on!
