THROWBACK THURSDAY: ABOVE THE LAW - "BLACK SUPERMAN"

The summer was 1994 "Black Superman" by, "Above The Law" was playin on every video channel and radio station. Hailing from Pomona, California, the group was founded in 1989 by Cold 187um, KMG the Illustrator, Go Mack, and DJ Total K-Oss.

In 1989, the group signed to Ruthless Records, owned by the late great Eric "Eazy E" Wright. There they began working close with gangsta rap group N.W.A.. Their second album" Black Mafia Life" released in 1992, two years later is when "Uncle Sam's Curse" was released, which was their last album on Ruthless Records. After the death of Eazy-E, the group signed to Tommy Boy Records. There they dropped two albums "Time Will Reveal" in 1996 and "Legends" in 1999. Their next move was to Suge Knight's Death Row Records but left 3 years later. West Coast Rap All-Stars, "We're All in the Same Gang", featured the group in 1990 collaborating with West Coast hip-hop artists, for the anti-violence fight.

Their first album on Ruthless, 1990's "Livin' Like Hustlers", "Murder Rap" appeared in the in the video game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, also on the 2008 film "Pineapple Express". Their song "Freedom of Speech" appeared in the 1990 movie "Pump Up the Volume" and was featured on the movie soundtrack.
